Sigarni

Sigarni is the heroine of the Hawk Queen pair. Ironhand's Daughter opens in highlands that lost their independence at the battle of Colden Moor and now live under the Outlanders. She is a silver-haired huntress with a reputation, headstrong and more interested in her own life than in anybody's cause, and she happens to be the last survivor of the old line of highland kings. Those who can see the future expect a leader descended from Ironhand, the greatest of those kings, and the novel lives in the gap between the young woman Sigarni is and the war leader the clans will need; when the change comes, it is a hard one. The Hawk Eternal moves the centre of gravity. Its main story belongs to the clansman Caswallon and a lowland orphan, Gaelen, in a parallel version of her world under attack from the Aenir, and Sigarni arrives through a gate in time as a stranger whose purpose there is part of the book's puzzle.
