Uther Pendragon

In Ghost King he is Thuro, son of the High King Aurelius, a weak, bookish boy of whom nobody expects much. When his father is murdered in an ambush by the Brigante king Eldared, and Britain begins to come apart under Saxon and Jutish war bands and the creatures of a ruthless Witch Queen, Thuro survives and is placed in the hands of his grandfather Culain, who sets out to make a warrior of him. The novel is his coming of age. He has to face the Witch Queen's monsters and travel beyond the Mist in search of an army of ghosts before he can claim his birthright, and he grows into the harder man later ages will remember as Uther Pendragon, the Blood King. Last Sword of Power is set nearly twenty years later. A Gothic warlord who draws his power from sacrifice is sweeping across the north, the Sword of Power is lost, and the jacket tells readers that Uther himself is chained in Hell; the book belongs as much to the warrior called Revelation and a blind girl, Anduine.
