Connavar

Connavar is the hero of Sword in the Storm, which follows him from his birth in the Rigante village of Three Streams to the leadership of his people. His father dies the day after he is born, and he is raised by his mother and his stepfather Ruathain, a big, steady man who gives him much of what is good in him. As a boy he fights a bear to protect a crippled friend and becomes a local legend, the first sign that the Morrigu, the Seidh goddess who asked what he wanted most, took him at his word when he answered glory. He travels south, learns war from inside the army of the empire of Stone, and comes home convinced that the empire will one day come for the Rigante. Gemmell does not spare him: there is a rage in Connavar that does terrible things. In Midnight Falcon he is king, and a father who will not acknowledge his son, and he looks very different from the other side of that refusal.
