Jaim Grymauch

Jaim Grymauch is a giant of a highlander in Ravenheart, set some eight hundred years after Connavar, when the Rigante have long lived under the Varlish. He drinks, fights, chases women and helps himself to other men's cattle, and the clans love him as a living reminder of the old ways; even some of the men on the other side like him. He is also haunted by his failure to save his best friend from betrayal, and he has made himself the unofficial guardian of the boy Kaelin Ring. Gemmell's stepfather, Bill Woodford, was the model for many of his big men, and he died while Ravenheart was being written. Jaim is widely read as the book's tribute to him, which may be why he is one of the warmest characters Gemmell produced. The jacket promises that one of the book's two heroes will spark a revolution, and Jaim is the one to watch.
