Kaelin Ring

Kaelin Ring is a young Rigante growing up under the Varlish, who have ruled his people for so long that their laws and their contempt feel as permanent as the weather. Ravenheart follows him from a boy with a gift for violence and a deep hatred of the occupiers into outlawry in the north, where the last free clans still keep the old ways. The big highlander Jaim Grymauch has watched over him since childhood, and his aunt, Maev Ring, is the other strong presence in his life. He becomes the outlaw leader known as Ravenheart, the name that gives the novel its title. Stormrider is set four years later. Kaelin is a grown man with children and a reputation, and a civil war among the Varlish forces him into an uneasy alliance with Gaise Macon, the son of the Moidart, the Varlish lord the Rigante have most reason to hate. The two men share an ancestor, which neither of them finds much comfort in.
