Rowena

Rowena is Druss's wife and the reason his story starts at all. The First Chronicles of Druss the Legend turns on the day, soon after their wedding, when slavers raid their mountain village while he is out felling trees and she is among the women taken. She is far more than a prize to be won back. Rowena has a seer's gift, able to sense other people's thoughts and to see further than is comfortable, and her captors soon realise she is worth more than the others. Her half of the book follows a young woman carried a very long way from home, into another country and, in time, another life, and Gemmell gives the choices she makes there real weight. Druss's search takes years, and when it ends it does not end simply. In The Legend of Deathwalker she is off the page, at home on the farm Druss keeps meaning to return to. Readers who begin with Legend already know that Druss faces the siege of Dros Delnoch as a widower.
