Sieben

Sieben is a poet and part-time confidence trickster with a weakness for other men's wives, and he becomes Druss's closest friend almost by accident. The First Chronicles of Druss the Legend, the novel of the axeman's youth, introduces him as a friend of the hunter Shadak, working a con in a town on Druss's road, and he ends up sailing to Ventria with the axeman partly to escape a furious husband. He wears a baldric of throwing knives and is quick with them, though he would always rather talk his way out of trouble. It is Sieben's sagas that turn Druss into a legend, which Druss never entirely forgives. In The Legend of Deathwalker the pair travel into Gothir and the Nadir lands together, and Sieben's curiosity matters to the plot as much as Druss's axe does. He supplies most of the comedy in both books, and Gemmell uses his vanity and his fear to show what it costs an ordinary man to keep standing beside someone like Druss. He does not appear in Legend, where he is only a name.
