Jianna

Jianna is the queen of Naashan, called the Witch Queen by her enemies, and the love of Skilgannon's life. White Wolf shows her mostly through his memories. When they first meet she is a princess in hiding after a rebellion has thrown down her family, and the young Skilgannon is drawn into keeping her alive. The girl he protected becomes a ruler who wins back her throne and holds it by force, and it was in her wars that he earned his name. By the time the novel opens he has left her service and she has sent men after him, though Gemmell takes care not to make her simply the villain of his story. She is proud and quick-witted, every bit as ruthless as he is, and the pull between them never quite breaks. The Swords of Night and Day returns to her a thousand years later, in an age when the old art of the Reborn has been put to uses Skilgannon could never have imagined, and her part in that book is best discovered on the page.
