Skilgannon

Olek Skilgannon was a general of Naashan and the sworn sword of its queen, Jianna, until his army's sack of the city of Perapolis earned him the name that follows him everywhere, the Damned. White Wolf begins three years after he vanished, taking the paired Swords of Night and Day with him. He has been living as a monk and trying to believe the change is real when a murderous mob arrives at the monastery. From there he sets out, with the Witch Queen's assassins behind him, to find a temple said to be able to bring the dead back to life, and Druss the Legend falls in beside him. Much of the novel is told in flashback, through his youth and his first meeting with Jianna. The Swords of Night and Day opens a thousand years later, when he is brought back as a Reborn into a world that has made him a legend, with his skills blunted and his memories in pieces. Both books are about a man who keeps reaching for the swords while wishing he could stop.
